I currently have some brand new artworks on display at Embo Cafe, Haddington Place, Edinburgh until 20th October! I had a huge amount of fun creating these paintings and they are a big step away from my botanical stuff. When I'm not hard at work on my botanical paintings I like to 'destress' by creating artwork that is less taxing on my brain and faster to produce! Animalia is the first in what I hope to be a new line of work coming from me in the future!
Studies of a Chinese Lantern, Physalis alkekengi. It took me three attempts to get something that looked half decent! Top left: 1st and 2nd attempts (1st attempt is the more detailed one). This was looking too much like a mandarin(!) so I started again. 2nd attempt I abandoned quickly as it was too early in the morning! 3rd attempt: bottom right pic, finally starting to look like the real thing!
